Harbor Bike & Beach Shop was established January 1, 1978 by Robert Shensky as a full service bicycle shop with rentals. Harbor Hardware, established in 1964 by Arnold Shensky, Robert’s father, at the same location, saw a constantly increasing demand for bike rentals, parts, repairs, accessories, and beach items. These products and services were gradually added to the hardware store.
When his father decided to retire in 1977, Robert began selling off all of the less-in-demand hardware merchandise, thus marking the transition from Harbor Hardware into Harbor Bike. Recognizing the need for a full service bicycle shop, Robert gradually filled display vacancies with bicycle merchandise. The business thrived under Roberts ownership with an average stock of over 600 new bicycles from at least five major brands.
When Robert decided to retire in 2019 he handed the reigns of the business over to his long time employee Brenden Bridgman. Currently, in addition to a large bicycle selection, the shop includes a huge parts department, accessories, clothing, beach supplies, a large rental fleet, and a second-to-none service department.
